Dear Parishioners,

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a major part of our lives, and its influence is evident in many aspects. AI can be a very helpful tool—it can help doctors diagnose diseases, assist students in learning.  However, it can be harmful when used carelessly. A hammer can build a home or become a weapon. In the same way, AI can be used to serve humanity or to control, divide, and manipulate people. The real danger is not that machines become human, but that humans begin to behave like machines—losing compassion, conscience, patience, and genuine relationships. Our faith reminds us that we are created in the image and likeness of God, capable of love, mercy, sacrifice and prayer.

In this context, last Monday, May 25, 2026, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity), reflecting on human dignity, Christian solidarity and the moral challenges of our modern age—including the growing influence of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The Holy Father calls on all of humanity to ensure that technological progress always serves the human person and the common good. He also warns against a future in which technological power is concentrated in the hands of a few corporations or governments, reducing human beings to data, consumers, or replaceable workers.

You can find the link to the encyclical on our Parish website or on the Archdiocesan website. I encourage you to carefully read the encyclical, as it is a very informative and helpful tool to help us to love human beings and use technology, rather than to love technology and use people.
