Dear Parishioners,

Just as the month of May was dedicated to our Blessed Mother, the month of June is dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The feast of the Sacred Heart is an important feast for the Church, especially for us, the Holy Cross Fathers, because our founder Blessed Basil Moreau, dedicated the priests to the care of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

In his message for the month of Sacred Heart, His Eminence Francis Cardinal Leo writes, “I earnestly invite therefore all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Toronto this June to join in celebrating Jesus in the reality of his loving, burning, sacrificial and life-giving Heart. This year the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart is commemorated on June 27th though the entire month is dedicated to this long-standing and much appreciated devotion in the Church. As Pilgrims of Hope during the Jubilee Holy Year we recall the words of Pope Francis, “Hope is born of love and based on the love springing from the pierced heart of Jesus upon the cross” (Spes non Confundit, 3).

In our world of dualistic realities, we speak of head and heart. Heart is considered the centre of the body. Heart is the source of all our feelings. Heart is where love, forgiveness, compassions, mercy, and so on originate. However, heart is also where our feelings of hatred, jealousy, bitterness, impatience and so on originate.  These days we cannot fail to notice all the racial hatred and tensions that are at the front and centre in many parts of the world. As we give thanks to our Lord for His selfless love and care for each of us, we pray that the hearts that are filled with hatred and bitterness may be transformed into hearts of love and compassion.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Have mercy on us.
