Dear Parishioners,

As we observe Family Day this Monday February 17th , we are reminded of the importance of family as the foundation of faith, love, and unity. Families are called to be a “domestic church,” where faith is nurtured and shared. This special day encourages us to reflect on the role of our families in living out Christian values and growing together in God’s love. Family Day also reminds us of our role in the life of our larger family, the Parish family of St. Rose of Lima, in nurturing our faith and in making our community even more vibrant and exemplary.

I am sure most of us have heard or prayed the beautiful prayer, “Christ does not have hands. He has only our hands to do his work, today. Christ does not have feet. He has only our feet to go towards others, today…” Here at St. Rose of Lima Parish Community, we are so blessed to have so many men, women, young people and children, who continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus and share their time and talent to enliven the life of our Parish Community. The many ministries of the Parish are possible because of your generosity. We are ever grateful to all of you for your dedication and commitment.

According to Statistics Canada, “Religious people exhibit higher rates of giving, participating and volunteering…almost two-thirds of Canadians aged 15 and over who attended religious services at least once a week (65%) did volunteer work. It is not enough to merely “attend” Mass every week or every day. Our faith challenges us to give our time and energy, in small and big ways, to serve our Parish community and our local community.

As you know we are blessed with many ministries here—the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Women’s League, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Ushers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar servers, various Choirs, Sacramental Preparation, Children’s Liturgy, just to name a few. Every little bit of time and personal talent you offer to one or more of these ministries would make a huge difference in the life of our Parish, the Parish family of St. Rose. Therefore, on this Family Day weekend, I strongly encourage you to consider, reflect and offer your personal gifts and your time for the good of our community. Happy Family Day!
